Roadside recycling returns to Baltimore on Tuesday (January 19) with a new digitized system to make it easier for drivers to navigate the collection routes.
The return comes more than four months after the city stopped weekly recycling collections amid a labor shortage due to the pandemic. Mayor Brandon Scott announced the restart last week and talked about a new boost behind the service.
"I initiated weekly RecycleStat meetings to oversee recycling and garbage collection and ensure residents are getting the services they deserve," Scott said in a statement. “Only 15% of our population recycle. I want Baltimore to use the services restart to dramatically increase that number as we work to divert recycling from our landfills and build a greener city. "
