(CBS Local) – As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage worldwide, the importance of health professionals is becoming increasingly evident. For this reason, it should come as no surprise that four of the top five jobs in the US News and World Reports in 2021 are among the top 100 jobs in healthcare.
The medical assistant is number 1 in the top 100, with the nurse, medical and health services manager, and doctors ranking 3rd, 4th and 5th. In between is software developer, an area that remains critical in a digital age where everything changes online.
"One thing that has compounded the global pandemic is the need and value of health professionals," Antonio Barbera, editor of consumer advice for US News, said in a press release. "This year's ranking confirms that it is a good career sector for many, with typically high average salaries and low unemployment rates."
Healthcare jobs also ranked high in the publication's best jobs, paying over $ 100,000. 16 of the top 25 jobs on this list are also in the health sector. For reference, the medical assistant ranks 21st with an average salary of $ 112,260, the nurse ranks 22nd with an average salary of $ 109,280, the doctor ranks eighth with an average salary of $ 206,500, and the medical and healthcare manager ranks 25th. Place with an average salary just over $ 100,000
The top 100 best job rankings cover jobs in 17 sectors including healthcare, business, and technology, taking into account various aspects of the jobs including growth potential, work-life balance, and salary. To compute the ranking for the Top Job List, the U.S. News uses data from the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics to find jobs with the highest demand for recruitment. The jobs are then evaluated using seven different components, the methodology of which can be found here.
