Orioles DFA Renato Núñez to guard six minor leaguers, together with former high prospect Yusniel Diaz, from Rule 5 draft – Baltimore Solar

As the Orioles’ primary third baseman in the second half of 2018, Núñez filled the hole in Baltimore’s infield created by the Machado trade, which netted four prospects in 2020 debutant starter Dean Kremer, Diaz, Bannon and right-hander Zach Pop, as well as infielder Breyvic Valera. Soon after his entry into the Orioles’ farm system, Diaz was deemed the organization’s top prospect. That status has since faded as Baltimore’s recent top draftees have bypassed him, but Diaz, 24, still ranks as the Orioles’ No. 7 prospect, per Baseball America, and has what the organization believes will be a bright future.
