Blakney, a guard/forward, was a first-team choice. The Gaels went 90-26 in his three seasons in the starting lineup, and he captured the 2019 Herald-Mail player of the year award as a senior when he averaged 16.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.
Blakney, who now plays for Dayton, scored over 1,800 points in his Goretti career, ranking second in program history.
Abdou Tsimbila averaged 10.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and a BCL-best 2.9 blocks per game in the 2018-19 season.
Tsimbila made the all-decade second team as a forward. As a senior, he helped lead the Gaels to the BCL championship game, averaging 10.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and a league- and county-best 2.9 blocks per game.
Tsimbila currently plays for Penn State.
Mount St. Joseph forward/center Jalen Smith (2018) and John Carroll guard Immanuel Quickley (2018) were named the BCL’s co-players of the decade.
The Sun also selected an all-decade team for each school.
Joining Blakney and Tsimbila for Goretti were guards Thomas Blake (2012), Elijah Clarance (2017), Rashaan Edwards (2019) and Przemek Golek (2019) and forwards Ameka Akaya (2017), Martin Geben (2014) and Matt Rogers (2020).
The 2017-18 squad was named Goretti’s team of the decade. That season, the Gaels went 30-10 and finished in a first-place tie in the BCL regular season.
